BOEING PASSENGER EXPERIENCE

BACKGROUND
The project was sponsored by Boeing and Teague Design and had the basic premise of developing designs to help improve the passenger experience.

Lavatory cleanliness, often cited in customer evaluations as an important part of the overall experience became the focus of our 3 person team. Initial project framing set up 5 high level goals to achieve throughout the design process. These goals provided guidance for the subsequent 15 week project.

Intuitive feedback and assurance of cleanliness were seen as essential characteristics of viable solutions.

PROCESS
Once we had established the high level design principles we started developing concept sketches that tried to solve some of the common problem that passengers encountered in an airplane. To get a clearer sense of scale we built a 1:1 scale model of the toilet using 2x4's, MDF, and a lot of foamcore.
Modelling in foam core allowed us to test out a number of designs quickly and relatively easily. Having a full scale model made getting feedback from our classmates and the instructors easy.
For our final presentation we decided to go with 3D renders to best describe all our concepts along with refining our
1:1 scale prototype to showcase the same.
All the 3D models were done in Rhino 3D and rendered in Maxwell Render.
